Why Are Black Children Being Attacked by School Officials?
Spraying too much perfume is apparently an offense that deserves violence from your principal. At least, that’s the message being sent by a Wisconsin middle school, whose punishment of a Black 11-year-old girl resulted in three braids being RIPPED from her scalp.
After a teacher couldn’t get the class to confess whose perfume it was, backup was called. That’s when acting principal Rob Mueller-Owens was brought in.
According to surveillance footage, Mueller-Owens went into attack mode, shoving the girl out of the classroom and into a line of lockers. He then FELL and LANDED on top of her, where he reportedly stayed for a disturbing 10-15 seconds. In that time, three braids were ripped from her scalp.
The child’s mother is understandably irate.
To WISC-TV, mother Mikiea Price said: “[T]he whole experience is just traumatic and devastating and just confusing. I’m just disgusted at this whole incident.”
“You know, I send my kid to school to learn, and that’s a place where mothers send their kids to be comfortable in. I just feel violated in so many ways that… this even happened to her.”
We feel the same, Ms. Price. We feel the same.
