“Ain’t Nobody” like Chaka Khan! She’s been rocking us with hits like “I Feel for You,” and now she’s living the good life with a plant-based diet and a 60-pound weight loss.
“[I] had diabetes type two and high blood pressure. I adopted my 10-year-old granddaughter last year. I have to be there for her. I went vegan and went off meats and all dairy and anything with eyes. If I have a craving for a little baked fish or something I might eat it. But that’s about it.”
When she first began to lose weight, Chaka Khan was on a strict liquid diet: “When I first started last year, for two whole months I didn't chew a thing. Me and my Vitamix were there, and it was my best friend.”
And a little physical activity goes a long way: “I don’t like exercising at all. I guess if I had one of choice it would be walking. I do not run and I’m losing like on average about five pounds a month.”
Chaka Khan credits her four grandchildren to getting healthy: “People who have children have it made because their exercise program is built right in!”
We can all do our best to embrace more plant-based meals and food in general, so we can avoid the chronic illnesses that affect our community and be around for our loved ones.
