John Ware was an O.G. cowboy.

Once the Civil War ended, Ware left enslavement in South Carolina to pursue life as a rancher in Texas. Soon after, he became a legend.

Always seeking to perfect his skill, Ware became renowned for his impeccable ability to train and ride horses.

Due to this dedication, Ware was able to bring the first longhorn cattle all the way to Canada in 1882, changing the nation forever. Because once he arrived, Canada’s ranching industry started to boom.

But working for others soon wasn’t enough. Rather than merely play a role in the predominantly white industry, John Ware disentangled himself from the mainstream. He instead poured all of his talent and skill into establishing his own ranch.

Today, John Ware is still highly respected for establishing Canada’s ranching industry. And by branching out on his own, he solidified his status as both a legend and revolutionary.
