When tragedies like the shooting death of 12-year-old Black boy Tamir Rice by Police officer Timothy Lohemann strike, many search for ways an innocent life could have been protected.
Sadly, there WAS a warning sign that went unchecked.
Loehmann’s personnel file held remarks from superiors that should have disqualified him from service.
But police are encouraged to underreport and even blatantly cover up any evidence of misconduct on behalf of their colleagues.
If that’s the case, how will the truth ever be exposed?! Here’s one way.
Introducing Raheem, an independent service helping to collect and report police misconduct in the United States.
Raheem’s mission is to make “the behavior of police visible in the form of meaningful data,” which hopes to provide the evidence necessary to encourage system-wide changes.
Raheem’s founder, Brandon Anderson, who lost his partner to police violence, is hoping to collect over 1,500 reports by June 30, 2019, and hundreds already submitted, we know there are more whose stories - good or bad - deserve to be brought to light.
Sharing your story, even anonymously, of encounters with specific policemen or local departments could protect others from becoming victims of profiling, harassment, violence, and extortion.
Now is the chance to confidentially share your encounter by taking the three-minute survey at https://raheem.org/. Doing so may save a life.
