Gary Smith was killed by a cop in Chicago in 2014. His death caused a debate around the issue of whether he was carrying a weapon or not, as it often does when Black people are killed by the police.
A Chicago police officer named Arkadiusz Pachnik killed Smith just months before Laquan Mcdonald was killed by Officer Jason Van Dyke. The latter ENRAGED the city, but Smith’s killing did not go ignored either.
Eyewitnesses said Smith didn’t have a gun and that police planted one at the scene. A jury recently agreed and awarded the family over $5 million. This is the norm now in Chicago because the police are THAT CORRUPT.
In 2018 alone, Chicago paid out $50 MILLION because of police misconduct. Wrongful convictions, killings, and other forms of police corruption ADD UP. It’s costing Chicago taxpayers so much it’s a shame, but the cops keep at it!
We hope that the family of Gary Smith will feel some peace after all that they’ve been through. This is a tragedy and he should still be with his family.
