The government clearly had a problem with communication and clarity under the leadership of President Trump. His messaging on the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic was confusing and chaotic. Then, the federal government made purchases that pointed to worrisome possibilities.
The federal government bought 100,000 body bags in April 2020. The largest order was placed “the day after Trump said that the U.S. death toll from the coronavirus might not exceed 50,000 or 60,000 people,” according to the Hill.
Other gear purchased also showed a disturbing reality.
The government was stockpiling riot gear items. Evidently there was a concern that an uprising was on the horizon.
It’s also been reported that the military is prepared to play a larger role in the response to COVID-19 and the possibility of “civil disturbances.” This is a concern for Black people because of how we’re policed and the fact that we’re STILL bearing the brunt of COVID-19.
Black America is not in a position to be uninformed about what the government’s up to when it comes to COVID-19 and the military. This pandemic is not letting up just yet, and government spending indicates we may need to be bracing for the worst.
