There is no denying that Prince was a legend in the Black community. But most importantly, he was for the people. And that included those who had limited use of sight and hearing.
He worked with local bookers to set up a concert at Gallaudet University for Deaf and Blind students. He wanted to treat students who could not see or hear him to the experience of a special live performance just for them.
The students had no idea what would happen until the day it happened. Afterward, they raved about how moving the show was. Some Deaf students commented that although they couldn’t hear the lyrics, they could feel the music. The Blind students were touched by Prince’s songs about empowerment and equality.
Despite his immense wealth and fame, Prince chose to keep many of his charitable contributions under wraps, quietly supporting causes that were important to him. From donating millions of dollars to organizations supporting education and social justice initiatives, Prince's impact on the world went far beyond his music.
Prince always had the best interests of marginalized groups at heart. His actions show that you can be successful while still doing what's truly important: helping those in need and fighting for a more equitable society.
