On September 25, 1961, a man named Louis Allen witnessed white state legislator Euguene Hurst shoot and kill NAACP leader Herbert Lee in Mississippi. But little did Allen know, being a witness put a target on his back.

Local authorities coerced Allen to testify that Hurst killed Lee in self-defense. But Allen, troubled by Lee’s memory, couldn’t lie for long.

So, he went to the FBI with the truth – Hurst killed Lee because he was registering Black people to vote!

But when news spread about what Allen had done, the FBI left him with NO witness protection!

Over the next couple years, he lost business, was thrown in jail on baseless charges, and even had his jaw broken by Sheriff Daniel Jones, the son of an established Klansmen. So, Allen finally decided to leave town.

On January 31, 1964, the night before he planned to relocate to Wisconsin, Allen was ambushed. His son found his dead body in the driveway, his face blown off!

That same Sheriff, Jones, was made the lead investigator on his case, leaving it “unsolved” to this day.

Today, police and civilians alike still get away with murdering Black people, whether for organizing their communities, or for simply walking down the street. But like Allen courageously did, we have to expose the truth. If it wasn't important, would they be killing us to cover it up?
