“I own my own masters / You know I ain't missin' no royalty statements.” -- “We Made It Freestyle” (2014)

Jay-Z’s music catalog is worth an estimated $75 million but the freedom to make and release music when and how he chooses is priceless.

“In the land of the free, where the [B]lacks enslaved/Three-fifths of a man, I believe’s the phrase/I’m 50 percent of D’USSÉ and it’s debt free” -- “What’s Free” (2018)

Jay-Z is an iconic brand that believes ownership matters more than consumption.

He buys lucrative shares in a variety of ventures like music streaming service TIDAL (worth $100 million) and cognac beverage company D’USSÉ.

“I’m riding dirty, tryna get filthy/Pablo Picasso, Rothkos, Rilkes/Graduated to the MoMA/And I did all of this without a diploma” -- “Who Gon Stop Me” (2011)

This former street hustler loves fine art. His collection is valued at $70 million!

“I coulda bought a place in DUMBO before it was DUMBO for like 2 million/That same building today is worth 25 million/Guess how I’m feelin?/Dumbo…” -- “The Story of O.J.” (2017)

Take a calculated risk, or regret it the way Jay-Z did with this Brooklyn real estate deal.

His cautionary tale shows that buying property often appreciates in value. Just look to his $50 million real estate portfolio as an example.
