The 1990s were a fire decade for R&B. So it was unsurprising that two young, powerhouse voices popped up. Brandy and Monica crash-landed onto the scene, taking over the charts.

Inspired by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson's 1982 duet "The Girl Is Mine" and the drama of daytime shows like Jerry Springer, Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine” dramatized a love triangle.  But the public latched onto the tension, transforming the song into a legitimate rivalry.

Pitted against each other, they initially played into it until the play became reality. Tensions got so high that punches were thrown right before the pair performed the iconic song at the 1998 MTV VMAs.

The two didn't speak for years. They reconnected in 2012 on the single "It All Belongs To Me." Then in 2020, they reunited for a Verzuz battle. It's clear, both women have laid to rest the past feud as one of youth and misunderstanding.

Twenty-five years later, "The Boy Is Mine" still hits and now Brandy and Monica are leading a nationwide tour. This reunion is more than a nostalgic throwback. It's an invitation into a future where joy, community, and co-creation are central. Brandy and Monica remind us that the real win isn't the boy. It's each other.
