So many Black women entrepreneurs have fantastic ideas and run profitable enterprises that deserve the resources venture capital investors have to offer.
They’re exactly the kind of talented and driven startup founders that tennis pro Serena Williams is looking to invest in through her partnership with Whitney Wolfe Herd, creator of the popular social and dating app Bumble.
Through Williams’ investment in the Bumble Fund, the world-class athlete seeks to change the venture capital landscape that overwhelmingly places their bets on startups run by white men, leaving Black women-owned firms in the dust.
Awards and resources valued at between $25-50,000 are up for grabs, but applicants have already been warned.
This isn’t a free hand out by any means. The Bumble Fund expects a significant return on their investment.
But since it's been statistically proven that female leaders manage risks and resources better, and therefore outperform male founders if they are only given the opportunity, the winners of the fund’s latest pitch competition will have every resource needed to succeed.
The Bumble Fund pitch competition closed on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 - hopefully, it won’t be the last contest they hold.
Stay tuned to see which savvy entrepreneurs and their brilliant ideas made it to the next level.
