Ryan Twyman was a father of three in his early twenties with a girlfriend and a family that loved him. When Los Angeles Sheriff's Department rolled up on him and another man sitting in a car, that didn’t matter. The next thing you know, a familiar tragedy unfolded.
He was unarmed, and footage shows when police opened the car door of his passenger, he put his car in reverse. The police allege he was using his car as “a weapon” and they unloaded 30 plus rounds into his vehicle, even leaving to get a bigger gun at one point!
First things first, the police acted recklessly. You’re not supposed to fire at a moving vehicle for a number of reasons, but clearly, they threw caution to the wind.
Secondly, what was it about this situation that necessitated DEADLY force?
Ryan’s family and his community will never get him back and now his kids are going to grow up without a father. Meanwhile, the police who killed him are on administrative duty. The department even listed Ryan’s record as if that means that he deserved to be executed!
We need more answers than what we have thus far. Ryan’s family is calling for justice and the community wants an outside investigation instead of more police investigating themselves. Both of these demands should be met!
