Police Fall Short When It Comes To Hate Crimes

Throughout the United States of America, emboldened racists have steadily been stepping from the shadows to proudly display their hate.

Since Donald Trump was elected, and actually even when Barack Obama was president, hate crime numbers were increasing for the worse

So… why aren’t these numbers adding up?

After the FBI recently released its hate crime numbers, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights is calling out Congress and suggesting they incentivize hate crime tracking with federal funding.

Essentially, since police are doing such a TERRIBLE job tracking hate crimes, they recommend offering departments more money to step their game up.

ProPublica reports that the commission said the FBI’s data collection process is “deeply flawed” because it “still depends on the voluntary submission of data from local police agencies.”

And the police numbers are looking shady.

For example, when the FBI collected data for their latest report, fewer departments than last year even reported hate crimes. In fact, some places like Wyoming and Alabama didn’t report hate crimes AT ALL last year.

The commission also suggests that training could be an issue, alongside over-dependence on journalists to report how bad things really are.

If police actually care about hate crimes, they should DO THEIR JOB and identify, track, and report these crimes.
Policing already puts our community at risk - neglect like this only adds to the fire!
