The United States is the WORST developed country to have a baby, especially for Black women, whose rate of death is 3-4 times higher compared to white women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Black Mamas Matter Alliance teamed up with MTV and Lena Waithe to launch the “Save Our Moms” campaign which will bring attention to the issue through all of MTV’s platforms.

The campaign’s main feature is an original video piece produced by Lena Waithe that talks about the real danger Black moms face in the healthcare system: “Every mother deserves the right to go home with their child,” says Waithe.

But that’s not it - the campaign also has a ton of original content and educational resources, including a digital hub for expectant mothers and celebrity testimonials.

We also have to give it up to Black Mamas Matter, the Black women-led organization that focuses on Black mothers in order to “advocate, drive research, build power, and shift culture for Black maternal health, rights, and justice.”

Our communities have been dealing with high rates of maternal mortality for decades, so it’s about time that it is being recognized as a serious national issue thanks to the tireless work of Black women!
