Music is an industry overflowing with inequality. The pay gap is real, racism runs rampant, and, according to an investigative report by the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, the charts reveal deep-seated gender inequality.

Despite these roadblocks, chart-topper Rihanna has managed to become the wealthiest woman musician in the world.

With a fortune of $600 million, Rihanna outranks the likes of Madonna, Celine Dion, and Barbra Streisand on Forbes’ list of Richest Self-Made Women - veterans in the music game.

How did she do it?

The “Unapologetic” singer branched out beyond music and created an entirely new lane for herself with Fenty Beauty cosmetics and her lingerie line, Savage X Fenty.

Her Fenty dynasty has been wildly successful due to its focus on diversity. With makeup in all hues on the complexion spectrum, people of color flocked to the outspoken songstress’ products - and helped her become the wealthiest woman singer in the world!

Other women musicians had a head start, but Rihanna managed to play catch up and dominate the scene. All by creating an opportunity for herself, doing what she loves, and offering a product - for us! - that we can support. Congrats Rihanna!
