“In ten years, Flock will have eliminated crime in the United States,” said surveillance technology founder Garrett Langley. Langley, an associate of Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, claims that Flock helps solve about 10% of all U.S. crime and plays a role in 1% of all arrests. But his dreams of an alleged “crime-free” U.S. come with far more than a catch.
After contracting 2,000 cameras in 2023, Flock says it has cameras in 5,000 communities. It combines automatic license plate reader (ALPR) technology with AI networking to share communication and resources among cop institutions nationwide. It was initially associated with carjackings and finding missing people. But there’s more.
In May, Texas authorities searching for a woman who allegedly self-administered an abortion, probed over 83,000 ALPR cameras, including in abortion-legal states. Some towns, after community pressure, cancelled law enforcement agreements with Flock. Flock sent a cease-and-desist letter to Deflock.me, a “community-powered” tool mapping its cameras.
Flock’s capital came from wealthy tech elites like DOGE-recruiter Marc Andreessen, who blatantly stated, "Democracy is fake...There is always a ruling class...the masses can't organize." Tech powering a militarized police state that enforces oppressive hierarchies and crushes resistance is technofascism.
First, it was carjackings and missing persons. Then it was abortions. According to 404 Media, even ICE uses Flock. What—and who—is next?
