Europe is NOT the historical center of civilization. Here are three ancient cities that have endured war, nature, and attempts at colonization over thousands of years – and they’re still standing today. Where are they?
Benin City, Nigeria – this city in southern Nigeria not only one of the oldest in West Africa, but it’s also one of the most beautiful. Long before colonizers raided the country, this city boasted beautiful earthen walls that trumped both the Great Wall of China and the Egyptian pyramids.
M’Banza Congo, Angola – once the capital of the Congo Kingdom, this small city has survived not only colonization but also wars and disputes for its riches. Nevertheless, the small city still thrives, boasting a strong spiritual history, museums, and oil. And yes, it’s now independent.
Timbuktu, Mali – once a trading post for travelers, this city was the ancient world’s most sought-after city for learning and spirituality. Today the city still exists, having overcome greedy colonizers who want to put its treasures in museums or write books about it. Nevertheless, the desert city just keeps adapting to both nature and curiosity.
As these places show, Black excellence has ALWAYS been in existence. We must remember that we have a rich history that extends well beyond enslavement – and a future that extends well beyond the bounds of imagination!
