They Branded Him A "Cop-Shooter," But Didn't Tell The Full Story

On January 18, 2022, 16-year-old rapper Camrin Williams was hanging out with his friends outside when cops approached him. After he started filming them, they attacked! And in the scuffle, the gun in Williams’ waistband accidentally went off – shooting himself in the groin and an officer in the leg.

But that wasn’t the story everyone else heard.

Williams’ image immediately became the face of “cop-shooters” in the media, with officials villainizing him and calling for his incarceration. Mayor Eric Adams, who recently announced his vendetta against drill rap, even called for the LAW to be changed!

Adams blamed pre-trial bail reforms for Williams’ release from jail. But those reforms are actually the bare minimum of what we need: they’re meant to stop people from sitting in jail because they just can’t afford to pay bail. And in Williams’ case, there was no foul play: his cousin simply paid his bond.

Williams didn’t “cheat” the system – the system was already against him. And the reality is, as his judge determined, police had no reason to approach him in the first place. Their testimony was even inconsistent with video evidence – testimony that everyone ran with.

From the mayor to the media, Williams’ true experience was grossly exploited with misinformation. A prime example of why we always need to stay alert for the truth – not “copaganda!”
