They’ve Tried Him So Many Times, He Might Make History

In 2015, Baltimore police shot at Keith Davis, Jr. 44 times – landing shots on his back and face. But while he’s been in recovery, he’s also been a part of a long road of injustice spanning over five years.

Because they’re trying HIM for a crime – multiple times.

First, he was accused of robbery. Then, murder. But, the murder weapon was never fired, evidence is “unreliable and flimsy,” and there’s no DNA test that even links Davis to the first man they claim he killed!

Now, they’re landing him with yet another false murder charge.

With a sixth trial set for 2022, he may “become just the second person in U.S. history to be tried this many times for the same incident.”

This new development comes after Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby pinned a prison stabbing on Davis, elongating this nightmare for him, his wife, and their four children.

Davis’ story makes it clear: representation cannot save us. Mosby herself addressed the racism entrenched in police misconduct, but still focused on prosecuting Davis and not the police who shot him.

And here’s why.

Mosby will still prosecute another Black person to death if that means protecting violent police, because police are a part of the system she works for! We cannot expect justice out of the same criminal legal system that breeds injustices itself.
