Dominique Wilson was scared for her and her children’s lives when police woke them up violently on a school day with a bullhorn and rifles pointed at them. The kids were crying as they were led out of the house in the freezing rain. What happened to her son next took her breath away.
The police ruthlessly put 8-year-old Royal Wilson in handcuffs, traumatizing him and bruising his wrists. He said he was most worried about his little sister, who’s “only six,” and said he thought his family would be taken. Police treated this child like a GROWN MAN.
An anonymous tip led police to their home, which they DESTROYED looking for guns, but guess what? They didn’t find ANYTHING! So now these kids have PTSD and the city now has another federal lawsuit against it - all because cops are reckless.
This isn’t the first time this has happened either. CBS 2 Chicago has exposed several occurrences where violent police raids traumatized children by treating them as suspects, handcuffing them, abusing parents, and even cursing at them.
This is all in a day’s work for Chicago PD. It’s gotten so bad that the Peter Mendez Act was proposed to try to stop police from abusing families and their children during these raids. It shouldn’t be that hard to stop, right? Well, you never know with cops like these.
