Beyoncé's Black, Country Reminder: Beyoncé roped us all back into the past in the best way possible with 2025's Cowboy Carter tour. From our connection with denim to birthing the genre itself, the Cowboy Carter tour reminded the world that country music is and has always been ours.

Three Black Women Mayors Elected: In November, not one, but three more Black women were elected mayors in large cities. Detroit native Mary Sheffielibecame the city's first Black woman mayor. Sharon Owens won in Syracuse, and Dorcey Applers in Albany, New York. Black women also entered mayors’ offices in smaller communities across the country.

Kendrick Super Bowl Meme: Not only was his performance unapologetically Black, but the post-show memes of Kendrick Lamar were also too–perfect for when you have to pop out and show someone what time it is.

Doechii's Win: Breakout rapper Doechii won a Grammy for Best Rap Album with her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. Besides her music, her acceptance speech was quintessentially Black:  "I know that there is some Black girl out there, so many Black women that are watching me right now, and I want to tell you: You can do it. Anything is possible…."

Boots on the Ground: Where them fans at? Boots On The Ground kept us moving this year. Black joy is infectious, and when we're aligned on the steps needed to take action, we'll always show up and show out together, just like with the iconic dance.
