“Revolution is a serious thing…When one commits oneself to the struggle it must be for a lifetime.” - Angela Davis.
Sometimes we forget that historic Black protests lasted months, even years. But Davis’ quote reminds us we must remain committed to fighting the struggle for as long as it takes to end it.
”You have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world. And you have to do it all the time.” - Angela Davis.
Knowing your role in transforming conditions begins with defining your strengths and passions, and pinpointing roles, organizations, or community efforts that reflect these. By utilizing our strengths and passions, we lay the foundation for radical transformation.
“We have to talk about liberating minds as well as liberating society.” - Angela Davis.
Part of our work is acknowledging that we’ve all been raised in a racist society that indoctrinated us with anti-Black teachings. Our liberation efforts must require us to question what we are taught, release harmful beliefs and understand our true history in order to liberate our minds and build collective power.
Reflection: There are infinite ways to fight anti-Blackness. Which strategies do you want to try? What can your voice contribute?
Angela Davis' profound wisdom underscores the tenacity, dedication, and transformative mindset required to combat anti-Blackness. The challenge is not just in acknowledging the struggle but in continuously seeking ways to be part of the solution.
