Marion Jones seemed unstoppable, winning five medals in track and field during the 2000 Olympics. But then the news that she had taken performance-enhancing steroids sent her career into a tailspin.

Jones stood to lose everything she had dreamed of. Appearing in court as a mother of young children, she pleaded with the judge for mercy. She served six months in prison.

Marion Jones was still an athlete. After serving her sentence, she gave up track and field and took up another sport she loved: basketball. Jones joined the WNBA Tulsa Shock in 2010. Her hoop dreams ended when she got cut from the team, but she was thankful she could show everyone that second chances were possible.

Today, Jones uses her social media to share her passion for sports and fitness. Despite everything that went wrong for her, she has kept her love for sports at the center. Social media gives her the platform she never had before to be a voice for women.

Marion Jones turned tragedy into triumph by blazing a new path for herself. She reminds us that when society insists on defining us by our mistakes, our community can give us grace.
