Some would call Dr. Armen Henderson a hero. He’s an example of what our community needs. This selfless doctor has been working to test people living on the streets during the pandemic. He’s been positively profiled by the media, but a cop had another type of profiling in mind.

Dr. Henderson was in front of his house when a police officer targeted him, supposedly for littering, and began to berate him with questioning. Henderson was loading up his van to go serve the community - something this officer was NOT doing. What the officer said revealed what it was really about.

The officer was not practicing social distancing or wearing a mask, and demanded Henderson “call him sergeant” and “call him sir.” Meanwhile, he was spitting on Dr. Henderson carelessly - after officers in his department have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19)!

Henderson is speaking out.

He wants an apology and he wants accountability. As a medical professional working on the front lines helping an underserved community, he should be treated with the utmost respect! We don’t need officers racially profiling us and risking the spread of the virus with their racism.

The department is supposedly investigating, but we’re used to hearing that every time this happens.

Dr. Henderson and his team should be celebrated for what they’re doing. It’s infuriating that police officers are still trying to find opportunities to harass those we depend on the most!
