This City Needs A Lot, But It Doesn't Need This

There’s a problem in Detroit. People are worried about the police using facial recognition in their neighborhoods despite their concerns, and there are MANY. This technology is proven to be biased against Black people. You should know how this tech can target us.

Facial recognition can actually misidentify Black people and confuse us! Yes, these algorithms have been programmed to think we all look alike too. It also disproportionately targets Black people, just like the police! This is why many people in Detroit are FED UP!

Things have gotten so heated that Detroit Police Commissioner Willie Burton was forcefully removed and arrested in a meeting where facial recognition was being protested. Though police have already been using the technology, it’s still dangerous.

Other cities are aware that facial recognition is not the way to go and some have recently BANNED it because of racial bias. Detroit needs to follow their leadership and the Mayor and the Detroit Police Commission need to hear our voices.

Say NO to the surveillance state in Detroit and demand that Detroit’s Board Of Police Commissioners vote against facial recognition. We have enough problems with racism as it is, the last thing we need is tech making it worse. Sign this petition to make sure they know that!
