Born and raised in Philadelphia, Teddy Pendergrass was destined to become one of the best soul artists the world has ever seen.
An ordained minister by 10, and the drummer of his own band by 15, Pendergrass’ undeniable stage presence and powerful vocals quickly led to a stunning career, and the hits we all love.
With a voice that oozed sensuality and gruff romanticism, Teddy Pendergrass became an instant phenomenon. Whether performing “Miss You” with Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes or the sexually charged anthem “Turn Off The Lights” at one of his notorious “Ladies Only” concerts, his timeless classics still move and groove us today.
Though he passed in 2010, concerts play in his honor today, reimagining the soul music he “Truly Blessed” us with. One such concert is coming to Philly that we can’t miss, and we want you to join us there!
Come enjoy renditions of Teddy’s greatest hits with the Philadelphia PushBlack fam at Close the Door and Listen: The Music of Teddy Pendergrass, happening June 14th at the Woodmere Art Museum. Tickets are $22.
Philly’s own Teddy Pendergrass is an icon who blessed the world with his irresistible baritone and passionate anthems. Let’s celebrate his life and music together.
