WHY does the US have more prison beds than hospital beds? You won’t believe the numbers we’re about to show you.
There are only around 900,000 hospital beds in the USA but over 2 MILLION prison beds That’s more than twice as much!
Don’t forget that there are already people in those hospital beds and people coming in for other reasons besides the virus.
This is where it gets more concerning. Other countries that have already been hit hard have sent the USA a real warning.
The hospitals in other countries have struggled to have space for patients which leads to scary scenarios. We can no longer afford to waste money on prisons and jails and let public health and other resources suffer. The cost of locking Black people up hits us twice as hard.
People must practice social distancing and self-quarantine to slow the spread of COVID-19. In the meantime, it’s a good idea to use some of this isolation time to make it known that we don’t want any more money wasted on prisons when we need healthcare!
