Could He Find The True Cause Of Death For Nine Black Orphans?

James McCune Smith was a scientific genius, but there were some things even HE couldn’t understand. Why had NINE Black children died under the care of these white orphanage owners? What happened?

So many dead children was suspicious. The small orphanage only housed 64 children, all Black, and NOT ONE of the all-white staff could explain what happened? He asked the white medical examiner’s opinion – and was shocked by the answer.

The racist blamed the deaths of the children on their inherent weaknesses. These children, the racist wrote in his report, were simply unfit to live on American soil – like all other Black people. But Smith, well-versed in statistics and human diseases, knew one thing about these conclusions.

They were straight-up B.S.! White doctors often assumed Black bodies were weak and barely human, but Smith knew that obviously wasn’t true. These children died from the actions of a racist orphanage staff that had starved, beaten, and mistreated them. Racism, not Black inferiority, was their cause of death!

Smith spent his life challenging racist medical and scientific practices – but the medical field is still haunted by lies about Black bodies. Racism is a public health issue, and it continues to steal Black lives. Like Smith, we must challenge the racist medical system and demand equality for our people!
