The Hatred For Black Trans Women Has To Be Stopped

We know who Muhlaysia Booker is for all the wrong reasons. It’s not because she was talented, beautiful, or generous. It’s because she was brutally beaten in a viral video by a mob. But just when you think it can’t get much worse, her life was senselessly cut short.

Only a month after Muhlaysia stated she could have been killed during her attack… she was murdered. She knew the hatred that Black trans women face simply for EXISTING, and sadly met her demise for that very reason.

The trans community is regularly attacked and killed and so far, all of 2019’s known victims have been BLACK WOMEN.

Her killing made international headlines and people across the world know Muhlaysia’s name.

But while her family and friends in Dallas were mourning her death, ANOTHER Black woman’s life was taken!

Chynal Lindsey was killed shortly after Muhlaysia. Her death marks the fourth incident in Dallas alone since 2018. The multiple types of oppression faced by Black trans women put this part of our community in an especially vulnerable place.

Now, we have to say NO MORE.

We have to be clear: this isn’t just a Dallas problem or a Black community problem. But our community has the power to make a difference. Black trans women deserve safe, happy, and peaceful lives like ANY of us do. It’s time to show these women they matter.
