NFL Linebacker Brandon Copeland is making sure he is financially set beyond his NFL career - and wants to share his knowledge.
The linebacker has not only signed a $1.2 million contract with the New York Jets, but is a graduate of the Wharton School, works on Wall Street, and even co-founded a real estate company with his wife in 2018!
Copeland is teaching a financial literacy seminar nicknamed “Life 101” at the Wharton School with Dr. Brian Peterson, the director of University of Pennsylvania's Makuu Black Cultural Center.
Copeland says “Life 101” covers everyday financial literacy like planning for retirement and building good credit: “The point of this class isn’t for me to tell you how to spend your money. It’s for you to understand what spending your money is doing for you.”
And Copeland definitely puts his money where his mouth is - he’s saved 90% of his income! “Anything I can get into an account and just let sit, I’ve got to a point where I have enough, where if football is over today, I have more than enough to take care of me for a while.”
Knowing how to navigate your personal finances can be very empowering, so if you need some help, see if you can take a class like Copeland’s “Life 101!”
