Taylor Schlitz is just 16 years old, but was accepted into nine law schools, including Howard University! She’s now getting ready to attend Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law.

When she was young, her parents recognized her genius, but they also realized her schools were not stimulating enough for their gifted daughter: “I was just being taught to pass the end-of-the-year test to get to the next grade,” she admitted. “I wasn’t being taught to learn.”

Her parents decided to homeschool her after she performed well on her intelligence tests. “Homeschooling helped me go at my own pace and thrive on my own terms,” she told Dallas News.

And her parents were right - Schlitz graduated high school at just 13 years old! Even more, she wrote a book with her mother, called The Homeschool Advantage, which promotes homeschooling and student achievement.

Schlitz’s passion to address this country’s racial inequities drove her to pursue law:

“It is my hope that I can bring my passion for addressing education equity issues, and help facilitate a program that focuses on the legal advocacy needs of underserved students and their families in accessing gifted education programs,” she wrote in a piece for Better Make Room, Michelle Obama’s college access program.

Taylor is an EXCELLENT example of the success our children can achieve if we nourish their intelligence and properly educate them!
