The Move 9 never gave up. This group of revolutionary, Black political prisoners from the MOVE organization in Philadelphia was persecuted by the police for following the teachings of John Africa.

Eventually, the organization was BOMBED by authorities, killing men, women, and children.

Despite all they went through, the Move 9 remained steadfast in prison with their loved ones fighting for their release. And after decades behind bars, members began gaining their rightful freedom, thanks to the work of movement lawyers and activists fighting for them on the outside.

Eddie Africa is the latest Move 9 member to be freed. He’s been eligible for parole for over 10 years - he’s almost 70 years old now! He spent 41 years in prison.

Two of the Move 9 died in prison but four have been freed this year. Only two remain locked down today.

Other Move members like Mike Africa, Sr., and his wife Debbie Africa are starting their lives again. They’re spending time with their children, friends, and community. And believe it or not, their spirits have not been broken. They’re still dedicated to Black empowerment!

Congratulations to Eddie Africa for what’s surely been a long time coming. We hope that he can now get back to living his life the way he should have always been able to!
