We have plenty of reasons to distrust police and corrections officers, but they don’t usually make their racism THIS blatant.

That’s why Michael Johnson was so surprised when he walked past a Calfornia Corrections and Rehabilitation office in Sacramento and saw a Nazi flag hanging on a wall inside.

“Right there in front of me was a big giant red flag with a swastika on it,” he said. There was reportedly other racist material on display as well.

The department has an excuse - but it’s hardly believable.

The racist flag was apparently used as a “teaching tool” used to better combat white supremacy in jails, they said. Furthermore, the employee who put it up is a “person of color, and has no ties or affiliation with white supremacy or Nazis.”

Convenient excuse. A teaching tool? Who doesn’t know what a Nazi flag looks like? And why couldn’t they just look at a photograph?

“I just don’t think it’s the proper display for a street-facing window,” said Johnson. Apparently the flag was even visible from across the street!

People who are interacting with the Department of Corrections already deal with enough. They shouldn’t have to worry about whether there are literal Nazis running the show.
