Police were responding to a “forgery in progress” when they brutally killed George Floyd.
They claimed he was resisting, but the clear evidence paints another, colder, picture.
Four officers came to the scene. Floyd was handcuffed and on the ground when Officer Derek Chauvin put his knee on Floyd’s neck. “I can’t breathe,” choked Floyd.
“You're enjoying it. Look at you,” cried one onlooker, as another filmed the officer’s cruel disregard for Floyd’s life. They told Chauvin he was killing him, but he didn’t care. Then things just got worse.
Like Eric Garner, George begged for his life. His last words were “I can't breathe.”
Footage from that day shows Floyd was not resisting arrest in the events leading up to his killing, despite the cops’ lies. All of this led to a monumental uproar.
Hundreds of people took to the streets, confronting police at their headquarters. Protests lasted well into the night, with Black people refusing to stand down, just like Ferguson, Baltimore, and many other uprisings from recent years.
The officers were fired, but that’s still not enough!
His family is speaking out. They want Derek Chauvin, the officer who killed him, punished immediately, as well as the others involved. Even the mayor is instructing the district attorney to pursue muder charges against Chauvin.
George’s family deserves justice, and he shouldn’t be forgotten.
