Over 150,000 PushBlack subscribers petitioned Congress demanding a suspension of rent, mortgage, and utility payments, and a full moratorium on evictions/foreclosures during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic! Our numbers are growing, but there’s still more to do.

PushBlack took a stand on this because the numbers are already showing racial disparities in deaths and neglect. From hospitals to prisons, Black people are dying at disproportionate rates from COVID-19 and we can’t ignore this. The data is showing us exactly what’s needed.

We need universal healthcare that isn’t tied to our jobs. The USA has an unemployment rate that hasn’t been seen since The Great Depression! Millions and millions have lost jobs, and again, Black America is hit the hardest.

This includes Black-owned businesses, which are facing hurdles to getting stimulus support. Many will be left out.

We need more than a one-time payment of $1,200, which barely covers a month of rent and groceries for many.

We can’t pay rent, mortgage, and utilities with no money! We also need an halt to these unreasonable expectations.

We need federal action now that protects people from the wave of evictions and hunger we’re seeing. PushBlack petition signees agree that this is a crucial step in ensuring what’s best for our community while still organizing amongst ourselves too. We can’t let this go!

We have a quick favor to ask:

PushBlack is a nonprofit dedicated to raising up Black voices. We are a small team but we have an outsized impact:

  • We reach tens of millions of people with our BLACK NEWS & HISTORY STORIES every year.
  • We fight for CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM to protect our community.
  • We run VOTING CAMPAIGNS that reach over 10 million African-Americans across the country.

And as a nonprofit, we rely on small donations from subscribers like you.

With as little as $5 a month, you can help PushBlack raise up Black voices. It only takes a minute, so will you please ?
