Eighty-five thousand officers across the nation have been EXPOSED. Thanks to USA Today network and a lot of research, we now have access to tens of hundreds of thousands of incidents in the newly created, largest police misconduct database EVER.
What’s inside is disturbing.
Black people have long been told we’re paranoid and that not all police are bad, but what this database reveals is a systemic problem that’s deeper than isolated incidents.
Police FREQUENTLY engage in all the behavior they’re supposed to be STOPPING - while KEEPING THEIR JOBS.
Police officers in Mississippi robbed drug dealers and extorted people. Police in Arizona sexually assaulted women, abused children, and even their own families. And these are just a FEW of the countless incidents you can see for yourself in the database.
The database isn’t comprehensive, and this is just what we know, so imagine what’s missing! The reporters who put this together had to jump through all kinds of hoops to get their hands on this information - which should be widely accessible!
Policing has a problem. There’s a culture of abuse, and no accountability, all across the country. The whole system is corrupt - maybe things will get better when people start admitting this truth?
