Dirty tactics are being used against people with criminal records to make them feel some type of way about the census. As usual, there’s an agenda at play here when it comes to the Black community and our rights.

Don’t let tricks like this one catch you slipping.

There are efforts coming from the right-wing to put a question about criminal background on the census. Why? Well, for one, we know such a question would disproportionately affect Black people, since we’re disproportionately incarcerated.

It’s fair to suspect that asking such a question might be a way to scare people out of taking the census. But the census needs to have an accurate count that reflects who and where we are.

See, population counts from the census have everything to do with resources. Electoral votes, federal funds, congressional seats and more are decided by the numbers. That’s why OUR PARTICIPATION MATTERS - and it’s why others might want to manipulate the count and scare us away.

The fact of the matter is, we’re a people that others feel threatened by. That’s why our adversaries are always trying to come up with creative ways to stop us from getting what we’re supposed to. Their tricks actually expose just how powerful we are since it takes that much effort!
