It wasn’t right! Queen Nitocris was angry, hurt, and miserable without her husband, the King, by her side. It was bad enough he was dead, but there was some extra insult to his passing.

He’d been murdered by those seeking to take over the kingdom! While the King had worked to overcome famine, those around him had plotted his demise. Their greed had set the stage for her people to starve to death, and Nitocris wasn’t about to let them get away with it!

The beautiful and cunning queen planned an elaborate underground banquet with the most exotic and delicious foods. She hired the most sought after musicians. As the guilty guests arrived, she greeted them warmly and joyfully. But the banquet wasn’t complete!

As the greedy guests reveled in the delights of the banquet, Nitocris closed off the room, then opened a hatch that let in the Nile River! The treacherous guests drowned to death. Nitocris, knowing the political impact her actions would have for her people, then leapt to her death into a pit of hot ashes.

She was dead – but justice had been served!

Queen Nitocris took fighting injustice to the ultimate level to protect her people, even losing her life in the process. We must realize that our quest for justice, too, requires creativity, persistence – and sometimes great sacrifice.
