In June 2014, star of “The Last O.G.,” Tracy Morgan, experienced a life-altering car crash that left him critically injured and one of his colleagues, James McNair, dead.

His brush with death inspired a shift in priorities that he believes all Black fathers should adopt.

Morgan shared with Essence Magazine how important a father’s love is to a young girl.

“Daddy is the most important part of a little girl’s life… Daddy is gon’ look at [his daughter] with loving eyes!” he mused. “And that’s what she needs, to know love from the gate. That’s the standard.”

The same adoration he expressed for his daughter, he also shared about his wife, Megan.

“Me and [my wife] are friends and that’s a big thing [even] in co-parenting. When the kids see both parents get along, it gives them confidence.”

And when Morgan is done showing his favorite ladies in his life some love, he opts to go to community-focused and charitable events instead of the snobby Hollywood affairs he is often invited to.

Whether it’s by his wife’s side as protector and provider, embracing his daughter, or supporting his community, Morgan insists, “I’ve got to be there!”
