Is This White Woman The Queen of "Columbusing?"

Cultural appropriation is nothing new, but this woman is now in the “Columbusing Hall of Fame” for “inventing” her $100 silk hair bonnets! Is this for real?

Well, it’s a little more complex than that. Sarah Lindenberg never claimed she “invented” the silk hair bonnet… not exactly.

She said that she couldn’t find a product that would meet her needs - but did she look in the local Beauty Supply? She tried silk scarves - but couldn’t figure out how to wrap them.

She didn’t like the colors on the market - but hers come in the same colors as every other bonnet brand. And hers are organic… just like everything made out of silk.

Her comparison of the product to what already exists is also frustrating: “It’s like… an old dirty T-shirt versus sleeping in silk pajamas.” Apparently, when we do it, it’s “old” and “dirty” - but when white people do it, it’s fashionable and trendy.

And worth $100 each!

White people consistently try to make profit off of things Black people have been doing forever. To her credit, Lindenberg has “apologized” - though the damage is already done.

If you’re in the market for a new bonnet, Baddie Bonnets, Before Bed Headz, and Isoken Enofe Lewa are three of MANY Black woman-owned companies selling AFFORDABLE silk bonnets to keep your hair looking great - minus the white foolishness!
