MLK is Civil Rights royalty and was beloved by all, right? No! He was under constant surveillance by powerful white people, who hated him.
This included the FBI, and they were always looking for ways to stop his work. In this case, they pulled out ALL the stops.
When rumors spread that King cheated on his wife, threw wild sex orgies, and used church money to hire prostitutes, the FBI saw this as their chance to strike. They gathered their evidence and sent MLK an outrageous letter. What made it so messed up?
The letter demanded that he KILL himself!
It warned him that his private sexual information would be released if he refused. The FBI gave him 33 days to make a decision: save his life or save his image!
The letter caused MLK a lot of emotional turmoil, but of course, he wasn’t going to go out like that.
The FBI sent tapes of his infidelities to his wife, but the media refused to report on his private life.
White people will do anything to destroy our efforts to liberate ourselves. Regardless of their threats, however, MLK kept fighting. Our fight for equality is much more powerful than the hatred of white terrorism. We must never back down!
