Pluto last entered Aquarius between 1778 and 1798. During those two decades, significant historical events had a direct impact on the fight for Black liberation.
1780: Pennsylvania passed the Gradual Emancipation Law.
1781: Slavery was partially abolished in Massachusetts.
1783: The American Revolutionary War ends, with the new country enshrining “liberty” in its foundation, ignoring the hypocrisy of “liberty and justice for all” while endorsing slavery.
1784: Connecticut and Rhode Island passed the Gradual Emancipation Laws. Black freedmen established New York’s African Society.
1787: The U.S. Constitution is drafted, allowing the trade in enslaved people to continue for another 20 years. It also reduces each enslaved person to three-fifths of a white person, directly affecting the US census and elections to the House of Representatives.
1793: The first Fugitive Slave Act passed, making it legal for local law enforcement to return runaways to their enslavers. More than 10,000 runaways were caught and re-enslaved under the Fugitive Slave laws. The fact that enslaved people kept trying to free themselves is proof that no law could stop their resistance efforts.
The last time Pluto was in Aquarius, many historical developments encouraged our ancestors to deepen their liberation efforts. We’re now entering a universal energetic shift. Now, more than ever, is the time to demand policy change, organize, exercise faith, and channel our ancestors’ revolutionary power into our own resistance.
