A white man named Austin Shuffield BRUTALLY attacked L'Daijohnique Lee in Dallas’ Deep Ellum neighborhood after a traffic dispute. She parked - and he confronted her with a gun! When she tried to dial 911, he slapped the phone out her hand.
When L'Daijohnique defended herself, Shuffield attacked her RUTHLESSLY. He punched her in the face at least five times and then kicked her phone away. All of this was recorded on a phone by a bystander.
What happened to L'Daijohnique made national headlines, but would you believe they had the nerve to CHARGE HER with a felony for breaking his window?
Thankfully people were not having that! The DA dropped the charge after it was met with outrage.
As for Austin, he’s facing hate crime charges among others like aggravated assault and four misdemeanor charges. But will a hate crime charge matter? The Dallas Morning News reports that “there’s little evidence in Dallas County that hate-crime enhancements make a difference in punishment.”
Violence against women is ALWAYS a problem. We have to make sure that when we say ‘Black Lives Matter’, we mean ALL Black people. L'Daijohnique and women like her who face violence deserve better. Men like Austin deserve consequences.
