Outrage After Controversial Presidential Pardons

President Trump wanted to make sure he could do as much damage as possible before leaving office. He hurriedly pushed through many “midnight regulations” to harm the environment, rushed a record number of executions – and there’s something else he did we can’t forget.

He went wild with pardons. Trump already had a long record of doing favors for loyalists, but he really just went above and beyond. He went out of his way to help people who have done things you’d have trouble imagining in your worst nightmares.

He pardoned four government contractors convicted of a gruesome massacre that killed over a dozen Iraqi people, and pardoned friends of his who were implicated in investigations against him, like Roger Stone and Paul Manafort. Another pardon shows how crooked the system really is.

He also pardoned Stephanie Mohr, a former police officer who unleashed a K-9 on a compliant, unhoused person on the street just to let it “get a bite.” She threatened a Black family with a police dog, too! These pardons reveal something important.

White collar crime has been prosecuted at a record low under Trump, and these pardons add insult to injury. A system stacked against us upholds white supremacy and protects the wealthy, because it’s designed to destroy Black lives, not carry out justice. That’s why it has to go!
