William "Roddie" Bryan, Jr. filmed the lynching of Ahmaud Arbery and we all have questions. How did he know to be there? Why was he driving behind Ahmaud, why was he filming, and did he know the lynching was about to occur? Why didn’t he help? Now things are clearer.

Roddie was just arrested and charged with felony murder and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation suspected foul play, and now he’s behind bars. It’s still not completely clear what his role was, though there are clues.

It’s been reported that Roddie “attempted to block [Ahmaud] in, which was unsuccessful,” according to police. So while many people were initially grateful for this video that backfired, something much more sinister was taking place. Now, he’s paying a price.

Roddie and his lawyer maintain his innocence, but it’s clear that he was a participant based on the horrific video he filmed without reacting in any way whatsoever. After months of neglect, the video wasn’t even released until people demanded accountability. And it’s still not over yet.

A spate of police killings has led to Black uprisings across the country, because Black people know we cannot solely rely on the system that let George Zimmerman and countless cops walk free after they committed murder. Time will tell, but we already know not to get our hopes up.
